Theme: Somatic Chair™
Gentle Somatic Yoga® adapted for the chair offers a supportive and inclusive way to explore the body from within. Using the chair as a source of enhanced feedback and stability, we’re invited to sense, move, and repattern the soma in ways that may not be as accessible when lying down or standing.
This approach makes Somatic Chair™ deeply beneficial for most bodies and life stages — whether you’re seeking muscular relief from stiffness, recovering from prolonged hours of sitting, or simply curious about new ways to move with greater ease and awareness.
Think about how much time we all spend in chairs: at our desks, around the dinner table, on planes, in theaters and concert halls, and while driving. This workshop is designed to meet real life — right where we are at.
For yoga teachers, yoga therapists, and bodyworkers, Somatic Chair™ also offers practical, immediately applicable tools you can integrate into:
Private sessions
Workplace or off-site visits
Students who require or prefer seated therapeutic somatic movement

Each Somatic Sanctuary™ livestream workshop includes:

Can’t join us live? No problem! All registered participants receive access to the replay video for 30 days after the event. After that, the video will be archived and available for long-term viewing inside our Somatic Wellness TV library.

Interoception: sensing your body from the inside/out. Through building more internal awareness, this skill assists you in self-healing and invites a greater sense of peace and wellbeing
With an attitude of exploration and discovery, learn how you can reconnect with the abandoned parts of yourself, due to stress, and to become whole again
Learn how to discern the important difference between stretching - versus - pandiculation and also fitness - versus - wellness
Embody a series of Somatic Yoga Movement Flows® to erase chronic pain, stiffness, mis-aligned posture, and other effects of stress throughout the soma (body). These Flows can be easily learned and implemented into a daily home practice
Discover areas of Sensory Motor Amnesia (SMA). SMA happens within the body when muscles stay contracted regardless of your best efforts to release them. SMA can happen as a result of overuse of specific muscle groups, accidents, surgery's, and other traumatic experiences.
Through Gentle Somatic Yoga muscles can be repatterned out of Sensory Motor Amnesia. When this happens you can retake control over your muscles and return to ease and freedom of movement.

James Knight, E-RYT, CHSE, is the Founder of Gentle Somatic Yoga® and has been an integrative therapist and experienced yoga teacher for over 30 years. He is recognized as one of the early pioneers bridging the fields of Somatics and Yoga, bringing neuroscience-informed movement together with mindful, embodied practice.
James is a certified Hanna Somatic Educator through the Novato Institute for Somatic Research and Training. One of his unique gifts is the ability to translate the principles of Hanna Somatics into accessible, compassionate movement experiences that support nervous system regulation, pain relief, and healthy aging.
